DANN FOLEY loves bright navy blue (check out the door!) for its contrast against white.  It is classic and bold, and rich without being dark.  Shown also is a sunny, inviting yet luxurious guest suite in parakeet green with Dann’s custom wall-covering, an example of layering patterns, textures and finishes.

“I arrived with 17 suitcases and two rolling racks.”  And during the four-month TV shoot for “American Dream Builders,” Dann Foley never wore the same outfit twice.  “Clothes are my other passion,” the Palm Springs interior designer says.  At press time we didn’t know how the competitive series turned out, and he can’t say.  But a little smile does play about his lips.

  • Creating a comfortable and inviting interior in what is truly an art gallery of a home takes a careful hand and a great deal of restraint…not to mention skill.  Checkout the hand made wallpaper cut into squares and applied to the tray ceiling in the living room.  Make sure to see the soft blues and greens I added to some of the living room walls to help ground and accentuate the art.  Those wall colors were inspired by the same shades in the fine carpets.

I am in love with my custom sofas and cocktail table in this room.  Clients who are able let go and let me do my job always get the most fabulous interiors!  Even the extensive renovations to the room, prior to the decorating didn’t scare these brave clients!

  • I was thrilled to be able to use color as a backdrop for the great art collection in this house!  Contrary to popular opinion, walls do not need to be white to showcase fine art.  In fact, the right color can set the art off and give you an even greater appreciation for the work. Mixing antiques, with modern pieces is one of my favorite things.  The juxtaposition of old and new is very exciting to the eye.

  • There is a reason my house was chosen as one of the best renovations in the State of California in their annual renovation issue.  It’s because I brought an ill-treated midcentury modern back to life without any clichés, kitch or bad choices!  Updating a mid-century modern house isn’t so easy.  Finding the right materials, finishes and products without creating a cartoon of a home takes skill, practice and lots of determination.  Check out the horizontal grain in the zebra wood cabinets of the kitchen as well as, the stainless steel finished tile backsplash.  “Classic Contemporary” furniture pieces are always my first choice for timeless modern interiors.

  • California Traditional – Starting a home on paper and “giving birth” to every detail along the way is overwhelming no matter how you look at it.  This house was a labor of love from the first sketches!  Traditional is NEVER boring in my office, it is all about “The Mix.”  Speaking of mix, check out the 250 year old Turkish doors that are the entrance to master suite.  Or the hand-carved ebony and gold-finished columns from the Philippines in the living room.

I am still in love with the way I used the Coromandel screen in the living room, the French tapestry in the dining room and the pair of armoires flanking the fireplace in the family room to give each room a focal point. The different materials, styles and cultures of each piece are unified by their large scale and the fact that they are the statement pieces of each room.
